Tagetes erecta, a kind of herbaceous flower, belongs to chrysanthemum, Tagetes. It has capitulum including single-sexual floret and bisexual floret. Studies on the cytology and selective breeding provide an important theoretical basis for the hybridization and breeding by making use of male sterility.Through morphological analysis between male sterile plant and male fertile plant in the alabastrum period as well as in flowering period, one morphological mark was found that the alabastrum of male sterile plant was in cone shape; the alabastrum of male fertile plant was cylindraceous. The male sterile alabastrum and male fertile alabastrum were significantly different. The petal of male sterile is filiform but not lingulate and tubular , the normal one was just the opposite.Selective abortion stage of the stamen was primarily manifested in the stage of archesportial cell formation through anatomic observation for male sterile flower and male fertile flower. There was no archesportial cell development or anther production and was a male sterile line without anther. Chromosome observation of the male sterile line and fertile line, parents of hybrid combination and F1 indicated that the chromosome number of the male sterile line is the same as that of fertile line 2n=2x=24; Pollen parent (Tagetes putula PHBO029) is tetraploid 2n=4x=48; the F1 is triploid 2n=3x=36 with hybrid vigor. The structure and function of different proteins or bands are suggested to be analyzed in further research on the protein or molecular lever and finally special genes related to the abortion will be found.
