Based on the actuality of shortage of varieties suitable for food processing, and arguments on early generation selection used in germplasm innovation, analysis and comparisons of characteristics related to food processing on 8 half-sib families were made with completely random design. By means of variance analyses, coefficient of variation, comprehensive fuzzy evaluation, correlation analysis and frequency distribution, 8 half-sib families were evaluated roundly. The purpose of this study is to learn in those improved populations made by recurrent selections (1) if there are still some positive genetic variations; (2) if the populations can be used as basic population for further improving; (3) if clones with low reducing sugar and high dry matter suitable for processing can be selected. Furthermore, we also want learn the possibilities of selection on some major characteristics in seedling generation; to learn correlation among characteristics, which will be academic bases for practical breeding aimed at processing. The results of variance analysis indicated that significant variations were found in all characteristics among clones. Among families, yields and dry matter contents were different significantly, which indicated that plentiful genetic variations still existed in improved Neotuberosum. The analyses of coefficients of variation showed that plentiful variations were showed in many characteristics, especially coefficients of variations for yields, tuber number per hill and reducing sugar contents were all over 50%. Therefore, those improved populations can be used as basic materials for further improving.By selection on single characteristic and evaluation comprehensively, 122 clones of high yields (tuber yield per hill≥500 g), 126 clones of high dry matter contents (≥22%), 126 clones of low reducing sugar contents (≤0.3%), and 96 clones of high yields and good quality were selected. Those selections were also receivable in terms of eye depth, skin color and tuber uniformity. Through multiple evaluation, high yield families (N1, N2 and N7), high dry matter families (N3, N6 and N7), good integrated performance families (N1, N2, N5 and N7) were identified.Tuber yields are correlated significantly to tuber weight and number per hill. Major effects on yields were from tuber weight and number per hill, which determined 87.52 of total yields'variation. However, positive correlation between tuber numbers and yields was adverse affect to...
