The hybrid rice seeds were usually abandoned because of low rate of seed germination, and this will impact on economic benefit. The seed phytic acid could suppress seed metabolism and germination.Comparing seed germination rate of hybrid rice seed Peiai64S/9311(F1) and its seed-parent Peiai64S and 9311 treated with different concentrations of phytic acid at harvest time with untreated seed after stored three years later and using GA3 as antagonist of phytic acid, the results showed that a certain concentration of phytic acid had suppressive effect on the rate of seed germination and obviously, the rate of seed germination of treated seed was higher than the comparison, and that 0.10mmo/L GA3 can cancel suppression of phytic acid during rice seeds germinating. According to appraisal and analysis of partial physiological and biochemical criteria of the treated Peiai64S seeds, it indicated that phytic acid had suppressive effect on a-Amylase, but GA3 could activate a-Amylase apparently. The studies suggests that the phytic acid treatment in hybrid rice seed field before harvest can decrease seeds germination on the ear, and it can maintain the seed's germinative vigor after a long store time also.
