The developmental duration, survival rate, larval and pupal weight, fecundity of Brontispa longissima were studied on unspread and mature leaves of host plants, including Cocos nucifera, Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, Washingtonia filifera, Roystonea regia and Areca catechu. Their life tables of laboratory population were also constructed. Studies on developmental duration at different temperatures, developmental threshold temperature and effective accumulated temperature were also carried out. We could understood growth patterns and biological and ecological characteristics of Brontispa longissima in liboratory. These results could provide theory basis for their field controls.1,Developmental duration, survival rate of Brontispa longissima fed on unspread and mature leaves of different host plants.The larval and pupal survival rates of Brontispa longissima were lowest 42.3% on Areca catechu and highest 81% on Cocos nucifera of five species of unspread leaves. The longest larval developmental duration was 50.6 days on Washingtonia filifer, the shortest was 20.15 days on Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, larval developmental durations feeding on Cocos nucifera, Roystonea regia and Areca catechu were 33.55 days, 38.64 days and 26.06 days, respectively. It took eggs about four days to hatch on all host unspread leaves and mature leaves of Cocos nucifera. The pupal stage varied from 5.29 days on Roystonea regia to 6.01 days on Cocos nucifera.Brontispa longissima could finish a full generation only on the mature leaves of Cocos nucifera of all host mature leaves. The first instar survival rates were very low on the mature leaves of host plants Roystonea regia and Areca catechu, they could not absolutely meet the need of development and multiplication. The first instar could become adult on the mature leaves of Hyophorbe lagenicaulis and Washingtonia filifera, but the adults fed on Hyophorbe lagenicaulis were almost misshapen, then they could not spawn and their survivals were extraordinarily low. The adults fed on Washingtonia filifera were normal, but they also could not oviposit, because their lifetimes were only about 10 days.
