The field located experiment was carried out at the experimental station of Gansu Agticulture University in Ganzhou District, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. The effcets of controlled traffic tillage with ridge irrigation on colony canopy architeture of spring wheat were studied. The results showed as follows:1. There were obviously uneven distribution about soil moisture under different controlled traffic tillage treatments. Water don't reached middle part of ridge after irrigation. Water wane can been reduced by cover of ridge, but it is limited. A water deficiency zone about 40cm was formed after irrigation in treatment CT(controlled traffic tillage without cower), and owing to evaoration of soil, top soil moisture was often lower than 10%. The soil moisture was better for crop under treatment CTS (controlled traffic tillage with straw cover in ridge) and treatment CTP (controlled traffic tillage with film mulching in ridge) because evaporation of soil moisture was reduced by cover of top layer, but there was still a water deficiency zone about 16cm.2. Controlled traffic tillage can make the plant height reduce, among them treatment CT was lowest. The plant height was 2.09cm,3.27cm and 5.65cm lower than treatment LT under treatment CTP, treatment CTS and treatment CT. Reduction of height of plant was not not shorten the length of internodes below ear and the second under CTP and CTS. The plant height composing index reached 0.72, 0.66 in two treatment.3. Space of leaf that influenced by plant heigh and the length of internodes was the configuration that was great in upside and close in downside. The ratio of Space between flag-third leaf, flag-second leaf and second-third was near 3:2:1. This kind of configuration was advantageous for intercepting and capturing of light in each layer of colony. Controlled traffic tillage with film mulching in ridge optimized colony architecture, and enhanced solar energy use efficiency. It was showed that colony configuration was too obturation in treatment LT, was toosparse in treatment CT. The Light penetration of colony reached 23.71% when the LAI reached the maximum level in treatment CT. There was a degression of geometric proportion from top colony to bottom colony under treatment CTP and treatment CTS. It was advantageous for intercepting and capturing of light in each layer of colony, only 8.03% and 11.23% of incidence light was penetrated.4.
