In recent years the epidemic diseases in Rana tigerina rugulosa became more and more serous and caused a significant yearly loss to the feeders, and thus the scale of breeding is dramatically decreased. It is an urgent matter to prevent and cure the diseases in frogs effectively. In this paper we investigated the main infectious diseases in Rana tigerina rugulosa in Hainan province during March, 2003 and November, 2004 and tried to find out the types, distribution and prevalence of the infectious diseases. In addition, some factors influencing the the infectious diseases were analyzed and future works in Rana tigerina rugulosa breeding and diseases control were discussed. The data of breeding quantity, output quantity, value of production, types of diseases, scopes and time of disease occurrence, incidence rate, death rate and situation of prevention in major breeding areas of Rana tigerina rugulosa in Hainan province were collected in the duration of two years with 4 production cycles. The results showed that the types of the disease included decayed-skin disease, enteritis, cataract, red-leg frog disease and decayed-cheek disease, among which the decayed-skin disease was most prominent. The types were varied with the different developmental phases of the frog. All the five kinds of diseases occurred at tadpole phase; decayed-skin disease, enteritis, cataract and red-leg frog disease at young frog phase; decayed-skin disease, enteritis, cataract and red-leg frog disease at mature frog phase. The most pools the bacteroidal infectious disease occurred is in Haikou city. The larger and smaller breeding farms for Rana tigerina rugulosa were selected as investigation objects and the rates of incidence and death in different infectious diseases, including decayed-skin disease, enteritis, cataract, red-leg frog disease and decayed-cheek disease, were compared. It was found that incidence and death rates in the chief diseases were obviously different with the scales of breeding farms, i.e. larger breeding farms with more than 500 pools had lower rates than smaller ones with fewer than 50 pools. The difference was related to many factors, such as the site selection, quality of water source, density of breeding, qualification of the breeders, quality of breed frogs, veterinary and hygiene condition and so on.According to the actual situation of Rana tigerina rugulosa artificial breeding in Hainan province, the suggestions were propounded that prevention of the infectious diseases should focus on the environmental condition of Rana tigerina rugulosa breeding...
