Remote Sensing and GIS technologies can provide kinds of information about ground objects in real time, and then it can be analyzed synthetically to determine the location, area and spread trend of damaged larch. But there are knowledge gap between the images and information, thus the main question of information extraction of remote sensing is built corresponding relationship of images and ground objects. This paper takes Larch forest in Jilin Province as an example to extract damage information and analyzed the relations between damage status and information. The main contents are showed as follows.(1) Based on the forest resource data, field data and other history, weather information, the GIS database of study area were built.(2) Data preparation were used on multi-temporal TM and MODIS images, and then obtained correlative environment factors such as vegetation, soil and topography. Spectral analysis was carried through different damaged degrees of Larch forest simultaneously, for discussing the expression disciplines of RS information on spectral and spatial image characters of ground objects.(3) Information of each predominant pure and mixed tree species was extracted, and different damaged degrees of Larch forest were detected after decompose of mixed-pixels. Then, caught the knowledge relations between damage degree and environment factors and found the information extraction model.(4) Lastly, pertinences and time series analysis among vegetation indexes, topography parameter and other environment factors were made.Using multi-source data, field and involved ancillary data to discussing the fusion of RS and non-RS information, thereby formed the characteristic extraction synthetically basing on multi-source data with authentically meanings.It is a methodology creation of combining the routine investigation method with 3S technologies, which will help analyze the rules of its occurrence, diffusing thoroughly and find the relationship between damage and environment factors. Thus it can provide a scientific evidence to forecast prevention and cure pine caterpillars efficiently and continually. In addition, it can exploit the initiative defensive tactic. That is to say, it can provide new technology support for prevention and cure tactic of eco-control forest diseases and insects. It takes on galactic economic benefit and science value.
