Large pumping stations play an important role in flood control, storm drainage, irrigation, water transfer, water supply, shipping, improving eco-environment etc. Following the start of the south to north water diversion project, effective management to such pumping stations will be more urgently needed, especially when security becomes an major standard to weigh the quality of a pumping station. According to the need of "unmanned on duty" operation mode and the transition from "schedule maintenance" to "condition-based maintenance" in pumping station, it has become one of burning issues in the field of pumping station that how to implement state monitoring and fault diagnosis on pumping unit, especially vertical pump.This paper mainly aims at the key technology study on condition monitoring and faults diagnosis of pumping set, including monitoring condition parameters of machinery, choice of sensors, data acquisition, signal processing, etc. Moreover, it introduces the virtual instrument technology based on LabVIEW, which is popular in the field of Computer Aided Technology. It describes how to design the condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system of pumping station with the LabVIEW based virtual instrument technology in both software and hardware, and a VI-based measurement system dedicated to the condition monitoring and diagnosis on pumping unit is designed and realized. Furthermore, the mechanism and characteristic of mechanical vibration are analyzed in the dissertation, which will help to implement fault diagnosis in theory; and it also discusses the anti-interference measures to ensure the results correct.
