The forest, as the principal part of land ecosystem, undertakes important actions on carbon circulation in the world. Biomass and carbon storage are hotspot of global change. Poplars are main species of plantation in north of China. Regard the poplar (Populus × euramericana cv."74/76") as the research object, adopt tree architecture and the pipe model methods to estimate biomass and carbon storage of the poplar plantation, and compare with results of eddy covariance method. These have important practical significance.Analyze leaf area index (LAI) special distribution and dynamic using hemispherical canopy photography. The value of leaf area index was highest in August. The highest value of LAI was 1.91 in 2005 and 1.96 in 2006. Found Richards-equation of height and diameter-at-breast-height (DHB) and organs biomass models. Diameter distribution accords with β distribution. The highest value of curves of distribution decreases gradually with age increasing. Estimating models of aboveground biomass were base on these models. According to this model, estimate aboveground biomass and carbon storage of the poplar plantation. At six ages, the carbon storage is 26.33 t·hm-2 and annual net productivity is 6.94 t·hm-2·a-1.Comparing with the results of eddy covariance method, the value of NPP:GPP is 0.45. Theimproved biomass method was considered as a good method to estimate biomass and carbon storage. As same time, compare with results of other people. The productivity is low because that soil canhardly keep water resulting photosynthesis rate descend. It is forecasted that the poplar plantation willabsorb more carbon dioxide.
