Studies On Reflowering Of Autumn-flowering Tree Peonies On Open Field

Tree peonies (Peaonia suffruticosa Andr.) are traditional plants native to China. Autumn-flowering cultivars, with the property of secondary growth and flower under appropriate environmental conditions in autumn, are a special kind of tree peonies. At present, They can flower for the second time steadily under simple artificial regulation in autumn on open field. Therefore they have a bright future in China.The study explored the reflowering of autumn-flowering tree peonies under artificial regulation based on previous studies. Three culticars were used in experiment to study cultivation regions, patterns and leaf growth from 2005 to 2006 in Beijing and west Henan mountains. The result manifested those as follows:â‘ GA₃ played an important role in forcing of reflowering and breaking dormancy, while 6-BA inhibited sprouting and reflowering and the effect of GA₃ on forcing of reflowering when combined with GA₃.â‘¡The distinction exsisted in regions of reflowering of a certain autumn-flowering culticar. Flowering rate and leaf growth were better in Beijing in contrast to west Henan moutains, while quality of flowers is better in the west Henan moutains. The difference also exsisted in three cultivars, of which autumn-flowering cultivar No.5 was the best.â‘¢Reflowering was obtained when autumn-flowering tree peonies were planted in pot. Soilless potted plants attained higher quality of flowers and leaves and lower flowering rate compared to those on the field.â‘£Leaf growth of three cultivars was promoted in different extent after spraying GA₃. 200mg/L and the period of 7 to 10 days before flowering were the best concentration and time for spraying. Leaf growth of autumn-flowering cultivar No.5 also was promoted after spraying 6-BA at the time of 7 to 10 days before flowering, but the leaves of autumn-flowering cultivar No.2 turned to curl afterbeing sprayed with 6-BA.
