| This paper illustrated conception and intension of seed-coat agent and seed coating and reviewed the development of application and research on technique of seed coating in main crop and vegetable crops home and abroad. Based on the status of diseases and insect pests rampant condition at seedling stage in Wenzhou area, a series of application technique of seed coating in main local vegetable crops was performed. Main results were achieved as follows:A series of seed-coat agents were introduced to test the effects of application in local main vegetable cultivars. After application in watermelon, Fengle Nutritious Seed Coating for melon and vegetable (1:40 for ratio of the chemical to seeds) and 13% Carbendazim Coating (1:40 for ratio of the chemical to seeds) were selected, which incresed germination and emergence rate and improved seedling growth. It could preferably defend seedlings against damping-off and Rhizoctonia rot in seedling stage, wilt disease and anthracnose in mature phase and increase field. After application in cowpea, Fenle Nutritious Seed Coating for beans and ZSB bean seed-coat agent (1:40 for ratio of the chemical to seeds) were selected, which increased emergence rate and improved seedling growth. Meanwhile, both agents defended seedlings agaist damping-off and wilt disease, thus, there was a certain extent increase in yields of cowpea.To investigate the effect of uniconazole on seed coating in vegetable crops, seeds of cucumber and cauliflower were used in laboratory and filed. No2 uniconazole seed-coat agent (developed from basic coating agent of professor Jin Hu adding uniconazole with 60mg/L) was selected for these two vegetable crops. The No2 uniconazole seed-coating agent was safe for seed germination and emergence and could decrease seedling height, promote root growth and accumulation of dry matter, also increase POD and CAT activity, Pro content, chlorophyl content and root vigour. Field experiment showed that coating agent with uniconazole (No2 uniconazole seed-coating agent) could significantly defend cucumber seedlings agaist damping-off, inhibit vertical growth and strengthen in thickness of young seedlings. It could blossom early, significantly increase fruit numbers per plant and yields of early stage and total yield. After coating cauliflower seeds by No2 uniconazole seed-coating agent, the uniconazole coating did not affect emergence rate, reduced damping-off disease incidence, increased stem diameter and fresh weight of seedling underground parts. Meanwhile, it increased individual weight of ball-flower, and showed a definite effect in increasing yield. However, there was a difference between two varieties.Storage experiment of coated seeds under normal temperature condition using cucumber and cowpeawith different moisture content and package materials was conducted. Based on changes of moisture content, aluminum foil complex bag had the best airproof capability, aluminum can and plastic bag had good airproof capability, and paper bag had the poorest capability. The suitable storage condition for 6-9 months was primarily selected for cucumber and cowpea coating seeds: for cucumber 'Tezao', controlling moisture 6.6%~7.3% with aluminum foil complex package could be used; for cowpea 'Oujiang 35', controlling moisture 11.4%~13.8%, three kind of package, aluminum foil complex bag, aluminum can and plastic package, could be chosen. |
