Cucurbita pepo cv dayangua Lu Anmin, a vary species of Cucurbita pepo, was found at Duolun country of Inner Mongolia. its fruit is bitter, poisonous and can not be eat. It is folk medicine used in treating rheum epidemic, inflammation, pain and diarrhea. Folk veterinarian also used them in treatment of the cold and diarrhea of sheep and the pestilence of poultry.Recently, several studies have been done to elucidate activities of the fruits of Cucurbita pepo cv dayangua Lu Anmin. The curd extract of the fruits showed inhibitive activity to salmonella, escherichia coli and staphylococcus aureus of pig and some kinds of virus such as avian influenza virus, canine parvovirus, bursal disease virus, newcastle disease virus and Bronchitis virus in vitro and in clinical trials. From the evidences above we can conclude it is potential to be developed as medicine. The studies on the chemical of Cucurbita pepo cv dayangua Lu Anmin is very limited. To elucidate the chemical basis of those activities we have developed systemic studies on constituents of fruits of it.The dried fruits were extracted with 70%EtOH then solution was evaporated to dryness under vacuum to give a residue. Dissolve the extractum with water, then use light petroleum, acetic ether and n-butanol extraction from water, concentrate the matter dissolve in water, it is water layer. Acetic ether layer and water layer was repeatedly chromatographed on silica gel, ODS, Sephadex LH-20, HPLC and so on. sixteen compounds were obtained and the structures of twelve of them were elucidated on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. They areβ-sitosterol (compound 0), p-hydroxy benzoic acid (compound 2), daucosterol (compound 3), cucurbitacin E-2-O-β-D-glucoside (compound 4), Amber acid (compound 5), cucurbitacin I 2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (compound 6), cucurbitacin L 2-O-β-D- glucopyranoside (compound 7), cucurbitacin D 2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (comp -ound 8), adenosine (compound 9) , D-fructose (compound 10) , D-mannitol (compound 14), sucrose (compound 15). Among them, compounds 2,5,9 were isolated from cucurbita genus for the first time. 14,15 were first obtained from cucurbita pepo cv Dayangua. There are four compounds not be identified, but we can know its types according to its physico-chemical property and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum. The compound which is obtained from acetic ether layer is cermaide. The vestigial compounds which are obtained from water layer are oligose.
