The distribution and composition characteristic and rich-lack status of beneficial and harmful elements were studied for the genuine Chinese medicinal materials Sichuan dwarf lilyturf (Ophiopogon japonicus) in Santai county. Meanwhile, habitat quality and medicinal security were assessed under the basis of the ecological geochemistry investigation and appraisal in the Chengdu economic zone. The main conclusions were as follow as:(1) Soil element background level of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf's producing area mostly approaches the national level, but beneficial element Mg, Ca, Si are lower than the national level. On the other hand, the tendency of soil heavy metal background accords with that of the world and China (Cr>Pb>As>Cd>Hg), and content of Hg and Cd is higher than the national average level.(2)Soil heavy metal content of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf's producing area in Santai County didn't surpass two levels of "Environmental Quality Standard for Soils". Moreover, most samples reached to one level of the Standard. as a whole, soil quality of this area conformed to soil environment requirement of the raw material for medicine production. Cd content in two sample was higher than the green standard, which showed there appeared mild Cd pollution.(3)Irrigation water quality of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf's producing area conformed to "Standards for Irrigation Water quality"and satisfied the water environment request of the raw material for medicine production. Meanwhile, the element coexistence relations was: change curve of Mo was opposite to that of As and similar to that of Cr, SO42- the K+ change tendency was similar. Under the conditions of soil pH 8.13-8.16, elements content appeared a strong undulation.Through the all-around assessment of habitat quality and medicinal security of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf, the geochemistry environment conceptual model of good quality and high output of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf was constructed. Then, the reference standard of geochemistry element for the genuine producing areas of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf was proposed, and research area (Santai County) was divided into the high quality area, the suitable area and the poor area of Sichuan dwarf lilyturf in order to instruct promoted planting.
