Public Cognition And Attitude For City Forestry In Baoding Urban Area

Along with progress era and the independent consciousness of public going up, thepublic participates in the natural resource management has become international tidalcurrent. And now, public participation and the attention investment would play a vital rolefor the success or failure of pubic project, especially in the city forest establishrnent andmanagement that it is vitally interrelated with their routine life. At present, Baoding iscarrying out a construction plan of national ecological garden city, with encouraging thepublic to take part in the construction of city forest, which its aims are either to promotecommunity's development or to improve the city eco-system. This research purpose is tounderstand more information about public cognition and the attitude to the city forest bymeans of deep interview and questionnaire survey. On the basic of the data, we analyzedifference of attitude and cognition between the crowds of different sex, age, degree andincome. The investigation shows that, in general, the public do not satisfied with presentafforested condition in Baoding urban area, of which the major dissatisfactory factors werelisted. From the information of the data, the public, on the other hand, take an activeattitude in participation of city forest establishment, but are short of the knowledge of thecity forest establishment and management. Moreover, the society has not formedcircumstance for the pubic to participate in the city forest management, and the activeparticipative consciousness of the public is relative low. Although the public zealouslyattend to the management of city forest, the investigation discovered that the majority donot understand the true significance of public participation. Because of the historicalreasons, the participative democracy consciousness of urban public in city forestmanagement, as similar as other public program, needs improving in the future in ourcountry. Also, based on the data, the cognition and the attitude of the public participationway in city forest management has analyzed, such as Voluntary tree-planting, public andgreen land cultivate and so on.This study suggests that the authority should pay much more attention to strengthenthe propaganda and education of city forest in order to improve the public cognition andattitude on it, as well as to carry the different measures to attract the public participationwith different crowds: (1) to establish a public channel to collect the demand of the pubicfor satisfying their attend enthusiasm and environment need, (2) to introduce thethird-party mechanism and develop non-governmental organization to take part in the cityforest policy work-out and management, (3) and to continue carrying out the policies of encouraging personal activity in city forest establishment, for example the voluntarytree-planting, public green land private-cultivated, public street tree private-cultivated andso on. In short, we should develop an atmosphere that it make the public comprehensivelyunderstand the vital role and functions of city forest, enhance the entire society's cognitionof the importance of city forest and encourage all the people to participate in the city forestconstruction and protection.
