The four-year-old Dongkui Myrica rubra were used to research the effects of ringing and girdling full and later flowering on growth and nutrition, photosynthetic characteristic in Myrica rubra and major quality of bayberry fruits. The results showed as follows:1. Lateral branches scope was reduced and lateral branches, basial cane, fruit cane, fruiting cane and monopodial cane wide were increased. Whenever ringing and girdling in full flowering or later flowering, Growth of spring and summer sprout was restrained. About the degree of restraint on scope of lateral branches and growth of summer sprout, girdling was the largest. Lateral branches, fruit cane and fruiting cane wide were increased most obviously after full folowering girdling treatment. Degree of restraint on growth of spring sprout was largest and basial cane wide were increased most obviously after later flowering treament.2. After ringing and girdling, weight of average single fruit was more significantly increased than the control trees'. Ringing treament more significantly increased soluble sugars and ratio of TSS/acid, reduced fruit titratable acid of bayberry fruits than girdling treatment. At the same time, vertical diameter and cross section of bayberry fruits were increased. There were no differences in edible ratio of bayberry fruits among ringing , girdling treatment and control.3. Soluble sugars, sucrose, starch, protein, total nitrogen and carbohydrate contents and C/N ratios in leaves were studied, the results were that full and later flowering ringing and girdling treatment could significantly increase soluble sugar, starch, protein contents and C/N ratios in leaves of young Myrica rubra, reduced total nitrogen content. Compared with full flowering girdling and later flowering ringing and girdling treament, soluble sugar and starch contents in leaves was higher, total nitrogen was lower than full flowering ringing treament. Ringing and girdling treament reduced sucrose content in leaves.4. Compared with control, ringing and girdling treatment significantly reduced P, K, Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn and Fe contents in leaves, and increased B content in leaves.5. Influences of ringing and girdling treatment during the dormant period on photosynthtic characteristics were studied. The results showed that, compared with control, Chlorophyll content in leaves was significantly reduced ; Pn, Cs and Tr were significantly dscreased afer ringing and girdling treatment, while Ci was significantly increased. Girdling treatment had larger influences on photosynthetic characteristics than ringing treatment. Pn was decreased mainly by non-stomatal factors.
