Perilla frutescens is a kind of valuable medical and edibel plant. Now some scholors both from domestic and international are studying it .These studying focus on its medical treatment, health protection, food, chemical industry and are becoming a hot topic. The experiment was conducted for estimating the heritability, genotypic coefficient of variation, phenotypic correlation, genetic correlation, genetic path coefficient analysis of 12 quantitative characters in P. frutescenss. And influence of sowing time on seed yield and other characters of Perilla frutescens were studied. The results were follows:The results indicated that plant height and diameter of stem exhibited high heritability. Length of primary branches'main inflorescence per plant had low heritability that was 1.96%. Mean rang (minimum, maximum), genotypic coefficient of variation were determined for all characters. Large genotypic variation was observed for all the characters studied expect distance between the highest primary branches and the second, length of primary branches'main inflorescence and weight of 1000 seeds. Phenotypic correlation analysis exhibited that plant height, length of primary branches'main inflorescence, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, weight of 1000 seeds ,yield per plant were positively and significantly correlated with seed yield. Genotypic correlation analysis indicated that plant height ,location of primary branches, distance between the first primary branches and the second, length of primary branches'main inflorescence, number of primary branches per plant ,number of secondary branches per plant, weight of 1000 seeds were positively and significantly correlation with yield per plant. But distance between the highest primary branches and the second had significantly negative correlation with yield per plant. And length of primary branches'main inflorescence, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, weight of 1000 seeds, yield per plant were positively and significantly correlated with seed yield. Distance between the highest layer primary branches and the second showed highly negative correlation with seed yield.Path coefficient analysis were conducted genotypic simple correlation analysis. The result indicated that plant high(1.7932), number of primary branches per plant(1.7274), number of secondary branches per plant (0.7385)directly contributed yield per plant and weight of 1000 seeds(-1.2217), stem diameter(-1.0438)and length of primary branches'main inflorescenc(e-0.6259)indirectly contributed yield per plant. Length of primary branches'main inflorescence(0.6458), weight of 1000 seeds(0.4689),yield per plant(0.2176), number of secondary branches per plan(t0.0738),plant high (0.0635), length of primary branches'main inflorescence(0.0110)directly contributed seed yield and other characteristics indirectly contributed seed yield. The seven sowing dates were set up to study on the influence on phenological period and other characteristics in Perilla frutescens. The results showed as follows:The days of bud period to the end florescence had a regulars variation with its sowing time advanced in different variety.Influnce of sowing time to characters had a regulars variation for seed color or matures.
