Synthesis Of Dimethylsulfoniopropionate(DMSP)

Dimethylsulfoniopropionate(DMSP)is one of active components existing in halobios. It is a metabolite of sulfur. DMSP accelerating nutritional metabolizability and inducing picking fodder on marine lives. However, the content of DMSP in halobios is too low to be extracted , so this experiment synthesized and purified DMSP in order to advance its application in aquiculture.This experiment synthesize DMSP with dimethyl thioether and 3- chloropropionic acid for the first time,discussed the best conditions of synthesizing DMSP and researched its stability in fodder's manufacturing and saving process. At the same time, Dimethylthetin(DMT)was synthesized which was similar to DMSP in effect. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and electron spray mass spectrometry (ESMS) was adopted to identify the structure of DMSP,and ultraviolet spectrometer was used to measure the purity of DMSP.1. The optimum conditions to synthesize DMSP was obtained as follow: mol ratio of dimethyl thioether vs 3- chloropropionic acid 1.5:1, the temperature 40℃,the time 10h, in which the yield of DMSP was up to 72%.2. It was showed that DMSP had favorable stability in the process of handling and depositing animal feeds.3. Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) discovered that Rf of DMSP was 0.61 if chloroform-acetal-formyl (5:4:1) was elected as developing solvent.4. The data of ESMS established that the structural feature of the synthetical was same with DMSP.5. The purity of DMSP was up to 96% by ultraviolet spectrophotometer.
