The experiment material was 27 Gannan yak calves.9 of them were the treatment group one, 9 were the treatment group two, the other 9 Gannan yak calves were the control group. These two treatment group yaks were grazed with full milk supplement from birth to 6-month . The treatment group one stopped milk supplement from 6 months old and was grazed individually by given supplementary feeding for 12 months . While the treatment group two was grazed with maternal yak together and without supplementary feeding . The control group was grazed with maternal yak together under the traditional management systems .The intake index was determined everyday , The weight, body length, height at withers and heart girth were determined every month before and after grazed from birth . The two treatment group yaks were slaughtered when it was 18 months old , before slaughter , weighed it with limosis and after bloodletting , decorticating , taking out the head , hoof , and bowels , cleaving in two , washing and cleaning up , weighed it again and then divided up and calculated the slaughter ratio , net weight of meat and analyzed the meat quality and two groups'practical value .1,The intake of diet The treatment group one took the concentration fodder from 0.13±0.06 kg/ head .day in the beginning to the summit 0.73±0.02 kg/head .day at their 13 months , and took the hay from 0.45±0.17 kg/ head .day at their 6 months to the summit 2.48±0.10 kg/ head .day at their 13 months , then their intake declined.2,The difference of growth index The result showed that the weight of treatment group one was 144.60±2.07 kg at their 18-month , increased 0.19 kg per day with supplementary feeding , while the treatment group two weight was 112.34±1.10 kg at their 18 months , the average weight added 0.08 kg per day without supplementary feeding , and the difference of these two groups was significant (p<0.01) . the body oblique length of treatment group one was 111.60±1.13 cm at yaks'18 months compared with the treatment group two oblique length 109.52±2.18 cm , the difference of these two groups was significant (p<0.05) . The heart girth of treatment group one was 136.32±2.16 cm compared with the treatment group two heart girth 131.18±2.10 cm , the difference of these two groups was significant (p<0.05) . The treatment group one height at withers was 106.34±2.10 cm while the treatment group two height was 104.08±2.14 cm , the difference of these two groups were significant (p<0.05) . But there was no significance in circumference of cannon bone between the two treatment groups . There was significant between the treatment groups and the control group.3,The result of slaughter capability This experiment indicated that the carcass weight of the treatment group one was higher than the treatment group two , they were 68.73±1.76 kg and 51.10±1.84 kg respectively and the difference was obvious (p<0.05). The weight of net meat , the weight of net bone between the different groups were 52.47±0.45 kg , 16.23±1.09 kg , 16.23±1.09 kg , respectively . and the difference was obvious (p<0.05). But the slaughter and carcass ratio were no obvious difference between these two groups .4,Routine meat quality analysis The result showed that the content of the treatment group one's meat crude protein ,fat ,dry matter and ashes were 22.50±1.32 %,2.80±0.08 %,26.32±1.21 %,1.04±0.02 % respectively compared with the treatment group two22.34±1.67 % , 2.76±0.07 % , 26.11±1.09 % ,1.05±0.01 % .There were no different between them (p<0.05) .5,The analysis of economic benefits This article also analyzed the effect of difference growing months on the economic benefit of yak . The finest feeding period was determined between 5-7 months supplementary feeding. The income was about 830 yuan per headIn general , the experiment showed that at Azi experiment station of Gansu Ganna , the Ganna calves of yak should feed on full milk supplement and was ablactated in proper time with supplementary feeding .
