Tree peony, which is one of world famous flowering shrubs, excellent reprentativeof traditional Chinese flowers. It has profound culture and folk base, which representsgood fortune, love and prosperity, once has been called King of Flowers. China is thecenter of origination and distribution of tree peony in the world. There are rich resourcesprovided the advantage of cultivating. Now there are over 800 varieties. Both thescope of planting and the quantity are the largest in the world. Although the lowpropagation rates of traditional propagation methods still don't fulfill the demand of themarket.For shorting the cultivating periods, realizing seedling production of large quantityand exploring rooting mechanism about tree peony, the cutting propagationtechnique, rooting mechanism and anatomy of tree peony and rooting inhibitors havebeen studied.The study of cutting propagation technique shows:①there are differences invarieties. The survival rate of cuttings is various from different varieties.②In the aspectof hormone, IBA is better to stimulate rooting, than the others such as NAA, IAA,ABT1. For IBA the concentration 1g.L-1 is better.③The survival rates of cuttings arehigher and there are some roots become abundance when cuttings are cultivated in soilincluding some sands,the substrate of perlite as well. while the substrate of vermiculiteis the lowest.④there is no significant difference between survival rates of thehardwood and the greenwood cuttings, The survival rate of cuttings for mother trees at1 years is higher. The survival rate and the cutting yield are not higher enough to applyto production. It is the worse when branches are at 2 year old.⑤There is differencebetween rooting rate for cutting in greenhouse and in field covered with plastic film,and the optium moisture is decidical to the rooting and the survival of the cuttings, and the temperature is the main factor, 10~15℃is the optium temperature whether inautum or the mancontroled environment⑥6-BA can stimulate sprouting but no use toroot .Girding can improve the cuttings survival rate effectively,but no use to rooting rate.Result of rooting physiology research:①there are several correlation betweenIAA,GA,CTK,ABA and the rooting rate,but positive correlation betweenIAA/ABA,IAA/CTK and the rooting rate.②there are positive correlation betweem C/Nand rooting rate and several correlation between C,N sole concention.Anatomy research shows:①There was no incubate root primordium in cuttingswhich was one year old. The induced root primordium developed into the adventitiousroot, and originated from the division and differ-entiation of the vascular cambiumcell. After about 40 days, adventitious root primordia developed into youngadventitious roots.②Low temperature can improve the callus. There are little callusfound in most varieties except Huhong, and only form much sclerenchyma. There isno relationship between the callus and the probality of rooting.The rooting inhibitors in cutting branches were studied by sprouting experiment ofgreen bean and Chinese cabbage seed. Results showed there were much difference in theconcentrations of inhibitors in different branch types and growing period.
