To investigate bone metabolism of sow during late-pregnancy and lactation, in2005, 10 sows with clinic health, varied parity and without bone disease were chosenfor experiments in a scaled pig farms in Guangdong province. On day 30,20,10,0before delivery and day 5, 10, 20, 30 after delivery separately, 10 mL blood wasdrawn via auricular vein for each sow in the morning without feeding, and serum wasisolated for chemical analysis. Serum alkaline phosphatase, hydroxyproline, glutamateprotein (osteocalcin), calcium and phosphor were determinated. The results showalkaline phosphatase originates mainly from liver to mainly from bone gradually insow befroe delivery and reversely in sow after delivery. Serum calcium decreasesgradually on day 10 before delivery, to the lowest level on day 10 after delivery, andincreases gradually on day 20 after delivery. The change of serum phosphor, hydroxyproline and glutamate protein was not significant in the whole perinatalperiod. It indicates that the bone metabolism of sow is stable relatively in the wholeperinatal period, and the complete formula feeds used in different stages can meet theneeds of sow in different physilolgical period basically...
