Recently, single lawn has been developed in Xinyang city. But it couldn't meet the higher demand of the people for better greenbelt lawn. In order to improve the technology of planting lawn and improve the performance of the lawn in Xinyang city—the jointing area of cool and warm, namely, to extend the duration of green period, to enhance the quality of the lawn, to improve the performance of the lawn, the study on mixed seeding was carried out by using the best single lawn varieties. Some apparent indexes and obscure evaluation were adopted to make a comprehensive evaluation of different combinations, to screen the optimum combinations in the region to provide the therotical base and practical guidance for the green lawn establishment.Based on the test of single lawn (1998-2002), eight varieties of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), perennial bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and red fescue (Festuca rubra) were chosen to make 16 mixed seeding combinations, and 8 single seeding of the mentioned varieties were sown at the same time. Random block design with 3 replicants was employed. In order to test the adaptation of the combination for different climate condition between years, the study was conducted for 4 years (2003—2006). During this research period, the date of the seedling and lawn forming of single variety and mixed seeding combinations were investigated. When lawn was formed, such indexes as leaf width, leaf color, texture, disease resistance, heat resistance, density, green period and the ratio of the plant passing through winter were tested in summer and winter. The results indicated that qualities among 16 mixed type turf were different. The quality of green lawn using tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) as the main part was better than that using perennial bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.). Evaluating the quality of mixed lawn by the method of obscure mathematics was done and 10 optimal combinations adapting the climate of Xinyang were chosen. The best mixed seeding combination was the third combination with 60% of tall fescue (3 species), 20% of perennial ryegrass (1 species), and 20% of bluegrass (2 species) which was 0.7547 of the comprehensive score. Next to the best were the fourth combination with 70% of tall fescue (3 species), 10% of perennial ryegrass (1 species), and 20% of bluegrass (2 species), the first combination with 80% of tall fescue (3 species), 20% of bluegrass (2 species), and the second combination with 60% of tall fescue (3 species), 40% of bluegrass (2 species). The comprehensive score were 0.7293, 0.7263 and 0.7193 respectively. In Xinyang region, tall fescue was selected as the main lawn seed mixing with perennial bluegrass and ryegrass. But the percentage of ryegrass could not be higher than 20%. The percentage of perennial bluegrass was between 20% and 40%. In shade area, tall fescue was selected as the main lawn seed mixing with red rescue.
