Eradication Of Pseudorabies Disease In Pig Industry In Hainan Province

Pseudorabies is an acute, frequently fatal disease by pseudorabies virus with aworldwide distribution that affects swine and other domestic and wild animals.Pseudorabies has been controlled and eradicated in many counties by gene-deletedvaccines and the differential diagnosis methods: USA, England, France, Denmark,Finland, Sweden, Norway, Austrilia, New Zealand and so on. But the disease is endemicin most parts of the developing countries, makes drastic loss in the swine producing andprevents the healthy development of swine producing in these countries.In China, the disease is endemic in morn than 20 province and cities. Outbreaks inChina cost the economy loss each year. The disease has not occurred in Hainan provincebefore 1980s, but over the last years, pseudorabies disease has increased in incidence andseverity and is common, possibly due to changes in swine management practices towardshighly intensive production systems and poor environment. More important, swine showdifferent symptoms from the alone one symptom, this disease diagnosed and treatment forpseudorabies are very difficult, therefore, the disease is of greatest healthy consequence tothe pork industry. So the project of the pseudorabies has been eradicated from the pigs isvery important in China.Hainan is the largest district of No-epidemic disease, our company, located inHainan, is the second pork industry in China, and has 22000 sows, 5 boar stations, 2 boarstations and 430,000 pork pigs each year now, in project of enlarger the boar number.The research is divided into two parts: First, we used PRVgPI from IDEXX companyto detect 5 pig breeding stations in 2004, and in 2005 we used PRVgPI four times tovaccinate pigs after slaughtering the serologically positive pigs. The immunize process:all pigs were vaccinated three times with vaccines from foreign company. Then serumwere collected and tested for gPI antibody. If the serologically positive rate is lower than15% in sows and 20% in fattening swines, the seropositive pigs were slaughtered, andseronegative sows were introduced in and regular immune procedure was conductedtogether with biosafe management such as disinfection and eradication of mice. Second,through statically analysis, the immune state, control and eradication of PR wereconcluded in our province.After strict decontamination of infected premises, keep on vaccine virusimmunization, and strict biosecurity measure: a sound vaccination program, and thorough,meticulous management with disease control and prevention in mind, strict quarantineand movement controls, the humane destruction of rat and flies, strict blood testing and serologic testing to preserve decontamination of infected premises.
