Two hundreds and seventy-three Hemerocallis species and varieties including seven species and eleven varietas were collected from abroad and home in this thesis. The main research content follows:(1)Using'the system of binary classification'for reference, the system of classification about Hemerocallis horticultural varieties was first established, and about it a eight-grade classified method was raised on the basis of genatypes, flowering habits as the first two grades. Over-wintering, the number of segments, colour and pattern, length of scape, flower size and flowering season as three to eight grades were choosed, and that was based on the different pattern indexs which were influenced by environment successively from high to low. (2)Combining biology, growth adaptability and ornamental value characteristics, all collecting Hemerocallis horticultural varieties were comprehensive evaluated, and twenty of them fitting Shanghai greenland arrangement growth were selected.(3)For crossbreeding while formulated breeding strategy in future, Chromosome numbers of six Hemerocallis varieties and karyotype of three of them were comparative analyzed. The result showed that they were similar to each other and the differences of three varieties were site of centromeric and asymmetric in the karytope according to Stebbins. Five kinds of SSR primers could produce polymorphic bands from forty kinds of SSR primers. The rotios of polymorphic band in agarose and denaturant polyacrylamido gels were 91.30% and 93.33% respectively. By using five primers in forteen Hemerocallis horticultural varieties and six Hemerocallis species or varietas, these SSR data were analyzed using cluster methods of UPGMA in the sofeware package NTSYSpc. Twenty materials for trials were divided into two cluster groups respectively. One group was most of Hemerocallis varieties for trial, H.fulva and H.fulva'Hankow', H.citrina, H.lilio-asphodelus, H.minor, H.fulva var Kwanso and three of Hemerocallis varieties in this trial were belonged to another group. It was same with traditional classification for H.citrina, H.lilio-asphodelus and H.minor as one group.
