Six important parameters in photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence analysis of the apetalous line Apet33-10 were compared with those of its petalled near-isogenic line Pet33-10. The result showed that though the apetalous flowers resulted in the increasing the transmission of light through the flower layer, the photosynthetic capacity of Apet33-10 didn't be improved. The net photosynthetic rate (Pn) and the optimal PSII efficiency (Fv/Fm) of the functional leaves and siliquae of Apet33-10 wrere lower than those of its petalled near-isogenic line Pet33-10 at the early flowering, the full flowering and the green canopy stage, respectively. The flower organs of Apet33-10 and Pet33-10 were compared. Results showed that there was almost no difference in the length of bud, stamen, sepal and pistil between the apetalous and petalous lines. Except for the loss of petal, there was little difference in the weight of sepal, stamen and pistil between the apetalous and petalous lines. Compared with Pet33-10, the number of productive pods on the main inflorescence of Apet33-10 decreased, on the other hand, those pods on the second order branches increased. There were not apparent difference in the number of poductive pods per plant, seed number per pod, 1000 seed weight and seed yield per plant between apetalous and petalous lines. Lower photosynthetic efficiency may be the main cause of no superiority on seed yield of the apetalous line Apet33-10.
