Land use and land cover change (LUCC) is a rapid method to evaluate the status of soil. These papers introduce this method into the evaluation of grassland resources. The aim is to probe new thinking and method of evaluation grassland resources by using LUCC, so as to provide a reliable scientific basis to grassland livestock production.Take Zhaosu Horse Farm into object, the eleven rangeland type and twenty seven rangeland forms located in different vertical belts and different geomorphic units were systematic investigated. Based on the Miami model and Montreal model combining with every item indexes, the carrying capacity grade of grassland resources in Zhaosu Horse Farm were defined. And the grassland resources potential production ( Y s) in Zhaosu Horse Farm was evaluated, too. The main results are as follows:The Trisetum spicatum+Phlomis oreophila+herbage form and Bromus inermis+herbage form were evaluated second grade grassland. The Onobrychis viciaefolia+Bromus inermis form, the Dactylis glomerata+Carex atrofusca+herbage form and the Hordeum brevisubulatum subsb. nevskianum, Phragmites australis+herbage were evaluated third grade grassland. The Stipa capillata+Agropyron cristatum+Carex liparocarpos form was evaluated fifth grade grassland. The Bromus inermis+Medicago falcata+herbage form and the Stipa capillata+Carex liparocarpos+Medicago falcata form were evaluated sixth grade grassland. The Stipa capillata+Agropyron cristatum+Phlomis pratensis form and the Stipa capillata+Calamagrostis epigeios+Seriphidium transiliense form were evaluated seventh grade grassland. The Scirpus planiculmis+Dactylis glomerata+herbage form and the Bromus inermis+Carex stenocarpa+herbage form were evaluated eighth grade grassland. The Kobresia capillifolia+Alchemilla tianschanica+herbage form, the Stipa capillata+Calamagrostis epigeios + herbage form and the Bromus inermis + Carex atrofusca +Medicago falcata form were evaluated nineth grade grassland. The Poa alpina+Carex stenocarpa+herbage form and the Caragana acanthophylla+Agrostis gigantea+herbage form were evaluated tenth grade grassland. The Bromus inermis+Calamagrostis epigeios+Carex atrofusca form, the Stipa capillata+Carex liparocarpos+Astragalus sp. form, the Stipa capillata+Carex liparocarpos+herbage form and the Carex atrofusca+Bromus inermis+herbage form were evaluated eleventh grade grassland. The Carex atrofusca+ Bromus inermis form, the Carex liparocarpos+Festuca ovina+herbage form, the Festuca ovina+Carex liparocarpos+Stipa capillata form, the Festuca ovina+Stipa capillata+Carex liparocarpos form, the Stipa capillata+Carex liparocarpos+Artemisia frigida form and Carex liparocarpos+Stipa capillata+Festuca ovina form were the worst, were evaluated twelfth grade grassland. From the dividing results, the areas of second grade and third grade are 3779.09 hm2, and fifth to ninth is 22674.55 hm2, and tenth to twelfth are 18895.46 hm2 in Zhaosu Horse Farm. They account for 8%, 50% and 42% of the arable grassland area, respectively. The results conform to the actual situation of Zhaosu Horse Farm.
