A Study On Main Tree Species Plantations's Health Management Technique Measures In Beijing Mountainous Areas

Forest health theory is a brand-new concept, guiding forest resource management and forest pest management in the late 20th century. Forest health theory was introduced into China in 2001 and designed to serve as the guiding theory that changes China's forestry construction from the quantitative growth to quality growth.In the existing plantations of Beijing Mountain there are still many problems such as the simple plantation structure, low stability, low-anthropogenic interference, the weak ecosystem services, a low degree of biodiversity, the biological hazards deterioration and the low level of productive forces. To solve these problems, Beijing Municipal Bureau Landscape and Forestry started the "Beijing mountain forest health management research of key technologies and demonstration" project in 2006.This pilot project, as a sub-topic, is intended to establish a set of health technology management model for plantation in Beijing Mountain. Since this pilot project carried out, a comprehensive survey has been conducted and data of existing plantations of Beijing mountain have been collected, and on the basis of the data, health business measures have been taken to improve the main plantation species in Demonstration Area. After nearly three years, we have got preliminary test results. The major achievements and innovations are as follows:In accordance with the principle of scientific, Applicable, Operational, combined with the natural characteristics and Value needs of Beijing mountain plantations we constructed the Health Evaluation System to main species of plantation of Beijing mountain and selected nine evaluation indexes to evaluate the Health standards of forest ecosystem by the four aspects of productivity, Community structure, resistance (interference), soil conditions. The nine evaluation indexes are the average diameter at breast height, canopy density, tree-density, density of seedlings update, shrub species diversity index Simpson, Simpson herbal species diversity index, worms harm ratio, fire insurance rating, soil organic matter content Meanwhile, we have been monitoring small forest climate and air concentration of negative oxygen ions and put the forest environment and social benefits in the list of the Evaluation criteria of forest health.This paper proposed a forest health management model as "forest health diagnosis - function of the forest - forest health improvement - forest health monitoring". Based on forest ecology theory, silviculture theory and theory of operation near the natural and according to the situation of plantations of Beijing mountain, we put forward a set of forest health management measures system including stand restructuring (including Zone of forest vegetation recovery and Low-quality forest restructuring), monitoring and controlling of forest pests and diseases, forest fire management, soil health management, biodiversity conservation, and so on.
