The experiment with 3 locations was conducted by line transect monitoring on plant community in Stipa breviflora desert steppe in Siziwang Banner in Inner Mongolia. Grassland degradation stages was determined by plant community data and the results show that: (1)The grassland degradation can be divided into 4 degradation stages: non-grazing, light degradation, moderate degradation, heavy degradation; (2) the plant community biomass decreased as the degradation increased.(3) Different functional groups biomass changed in different way, and grasse biomass declined with the increasing grazing intensity. (4) There was no different on the species biodiversity among the degradation stages. (5) Grassland degradation stage has positive correlation with the bare cover and negative with litter cover.
