In this thesis, four kinds of Insect Growth Regulators(IGRs)which had no obvious repellent effects on the adults were selected from six kinds of IGRs by studying the olfactory response of Glenea cantor(Fabricius)to the IGRs and the experiments about antifeeding effects of the six kinds of IGRs against adults.Effects of the four kinds of IGRs on the reproductive and feeding behaviour of adults of G cantor were studied further. The main results were summarized as follows:1.According to the results of olfactory experiments, among six kinds of IGRs,Tebufenozide and Buprofezin had obvious repellent effects while Diflubenzuron,Chlorbenzuron,Chlorfluazuron and Flufenoxuron had no obvious repellent effects on both sexes of adult in G cantor.2.The results of the experiments about antifeeding effects of the six kinds of IGRs against adults of G cantor were as follows:Among six kinds of IGRs,Diflubenzuron,Chlorbenzuron, Chlorfluazuron and Flufenoxuron nearly had no obvious antifeedant effects at all different concentrations tested except for Tebufenozide and Buprofezin. The selective antifeedant rates of Diflubenzuron,Chlorbenzuron, Chlorfluazuron and Flufenoxuron on female and male adults were 16.40%-18.11%and 22.05%-30.63%,respectively,and the non-selective antifeedant rates of the four kinds of IGRs on female and male adults were 8.87%-15.49%and 17.95%-27.30%,respectively at the concentration of 200.0 mg/L after treated for 36 h.The selective antifeedant rates of the four kinds of IGRs on female and male adults were 5.90%-11.52%and 9.80%-23.23%,respectively,and the non-selective antifeedant rates of the four kinds of IGRs on female and male adults were 3.57%-10.35%and 8.39%-19.50%,respectively at the concentration of 100.0 mg/L after treated for 36 h;The selective antifeedant rates of the four kinds of IGRs on female and male adults were 3.65%-8.87%and 5.43%-19.58%,respectively,and the non-selective antifeedant rates of the four kinds of IGRs on female and male adult were 3.24%-8.70%and 6.84%- 15.24%,respectively at the concentration of 50.0 mg/L after treated for 36 h.3.The results of the experiments on the sterile effects of Diflubenzuron,Chlorbenzuron,Chlorfluazuron and Flufenoxuron to adults were as follows:There were some inhibitory effects on the number of eggs laid by G cantor when the adults were treated with the four kinds of IGRs.The sterile effect of Chlorfluazuron to adult was the best among the four IGRs,the inhibitory rate of oviposition and the inhibitory rate of egg hatching were 65,3%adn 71.4%,respectively,and the integrated inhibitory rates to the next generation was 90.1%.The inhibitory rate of oviposition and the inhibitory rate of egg hatching treated by Flufenoxuron were 57.4%and 68.6%, respectively and the integrated inhibitory rates to the next generation was 86.6%.The integrated inhibitory rates treated by Chlorbenzuron and Diflubenzuron were 84.2%and 78.5%respectively.In contrast to the control treatment, the egg stage which adults were treated by Diflubenzuron,Chlorbenzuron,Chlorfluazuron and Flufenoxuron were all prolonged, the average egg stages treated with Chlorfluazuron were mostly 8-9 d(the percentage is 63.6%),the egg stages treated with Diflubenzuron,Flufenoxuron and Chlorbenzuron were mostly 7-8 d(the percentages are 60.6%-92.3%)4.The effects of reproduction, longevity and feeding activities of adults of G cantor treated by Chlorfluazuron were as follows:The hatching rates of progeny eggs reduced obviously with the increasing concentration of Chlorfluazuron enhancing, they displayed obvious corr -elativity.When Chlorfluazuron was at the concentration of 100.0 mg/L,the number of eggs laid by G cantor and the hatching rates of progeny eggs were all inhihited, the inhibitory rate of oviposition of T♀×T♂treatment(treated female mated with treated male)and the T♀×U♂treatment(treated female mated with untreated male)were 67.5%and 65.3%,respectively,and the inhibitory rate of hatching of progeny eggs were 67.5%and 63.4%, respectively;the integrated inhibitory rates were 89.4%and 87.3%, respectively. The integrated inhibitory rate of U♀×T♂treatment(untreated female mated with treated male)was only 45.8%.The stage of eggs laid by females treated with Chlorfluazuron were prolonged in contrast to the control treatment, the average egg stage of T♀×T♂treatment and T♀×U♂treatment were 8.1 d and 7.4 d,respectively, and the U♀×T♂treatment was 6.4 d.The results of the feeding experiment showed that there were no significant differences on the fed area between the treated and the untreated kapok branches. The results indicated that there was no obviously inhibition to the feeding behaviour of adults of G.cantor treated by Chlorfluazuron. When female and male adults fed on kapok branches treated with Chlorfluazuron(when the concentration was 100.0 mg/L),the average longevity of both sexes were 62.0 d and 40.3 d,respectively, shorter than controls for about 6 to 7 d.
