| To build up ecological gardens and create sceneries of plants is the trend of the development of gardening virescence in modern city, among which colorful plant plays an indispensable role. In the collocation of gardening plants, colorful plants contribute in the enrichment of categories, variation of colors and formation of flowery patterns so as to create different visual effects in accordance with the season. Consequently, colorful plants have become a new promising favor in city virescence.Xi'an is a renowned ancient city rich in history and culture. It has a long history in gardening and rich experience in planting as well. The paper attempts to carry out an investigation and study on the actualities of colorful plants by the main roads, squares, parks, scenic spots, and greenlands in residential areas and enterprises in Xi'an. The paper further clarifies the categories and figures out the application methods of colorful plants. As is found, Xi'an is rich in gardening plants with 40 varities, 66 genus, and 98 categroies in colorful plants. The main application methods include: solitary planting, bunch planting, mass planting, lump planting and foundation planting.Colorful plants can be used with stone ,water and building which can increase the landscape more beautiful.Through fieldwork it is found:1,there are 98 kinds of colorful which come from 40 familys 66 classes in Xi'an. The local plants are 54 kinds that occupy 55.1% and the introduction plants are 44 kinds that take 44.9%. Arbors are 43 kinds which occupy 43.9%, bushs are 40 kinds which occupy 40.8%, herbs are 9 kinds which occupy 9.2%, lianes are 6 kinds which occupy 6.1%; the spring colorful plants are 10 kinds which occupy 9.7%, fall colorful plants are 40 kinds which occupy 38.8%, concolourous leaf plants are 53 kinds which occupy 51.5%; homochromatism plants are 77 kinds which occupy 78.6%, purfle plants are 10 kinds which occupy 9.8%, variegated leaf plants are 8 kinds which occupy 8.2%, two-tone color plants are just 2 kinds which occupy 2.0%, colorful venation plants is 1 kind which occupy 1.0%.2,In the application of colorful plants, fall colorful plants and all year colorful plants are much more than spring's; homochromy colorful plants take a lagre percent as to two-tune color, purfle stripe and variegated leaf; The large amounts of colorful plants in application are introduction trees; large quantity of bush such as red barberry, gold leaf privet are numerous.But liane and herb are relatively few; small color blocks suah as The hedge, the treelawn, the flower-bed, the flower-strewn path can be saw in most greenlands, big color blocks which are formed with arbor are few.3,Colorful plants in Xi'an is not very rich and the garding application is also not very widespread (especially contrast to some south developed places such as Guangzhou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang). Great opportunities is existence in the development of colorful plants. This need to develop the introduction and domestication and local resources of wild plants.The patterns of colorful plants in landscape are too simple and repeat on unique connotation and significance. Because of some conditions such as climate, geography, soil,cultivation and so on, many colorful plants especially some south tree species are not particularly easy to adapt cultivation conditions or to show its best form in Xi'an.The paper attempts to provide useful basis for the research of colorful plants and the construction of gardens in Guanzhong area through such initial research of colorful plants. |
