As one kind vegetable, Chinese cabbages hold very important position in agricultural production in China. This essay refers to the researches made on the methods of the seed test & inspection of the Chinese cabbages, on the criteria of data collection concern about shapes and characteristics of the Chinese cabbages, on the standardized description of properties, as well as on the establishment of morphology database. The method of protein electrophoresis has been worked out for testing genetic purity of Chinese cabbages seeds. According to the relationship between the results of the electrophoresis purification tests and that of the field purification tests, the feasibility of testing purification by the method of electrophoresis was analyzed. The chief results are as follow:1,The establishment of data collection standard of morphology characteristics and the standardized description of Chinese cabbages.On the bases of data collecting and recording of the shapes and characteristics of the Chinese cabbages, the criteria of data collection and standardized description of the Chinese cabbages properties during different periods of growth have been established to promote the standardization of the seed variety registration, which will benefit the seed varieties protection, as well as the starting inspection of the seed purification.2,The building-up of the database and table for index of shapes and characteristics.The building-up of the databases for the 12 chief Chinese cabbage varieties in Shandong Province provides evidence and proof on the distinction and evaluation of seed varieties, as well as variety management and quality control in a scientific and uniform way. The properties of morphology existing abundantly in the cotyledon's shapes and color at seedling period, leaf shape and color, with or without fur, the nursing and evolving level of the head at the shaping period, the extent of opening and closing in center of head, the head's shapes, the mode of foliage's closing, the shapes of the crown, as well as the types of center of head color has been found clear and multi-formed, which play a very important role in the evaluation and protection of the seed varieties.Analyses on the stability and multi-morphology at seedling, plant-forming and balling periods were made. Table for index of shapes and characteristics was also drawn. The evidence and proof for evaluation of properties chiefly depend on the cotyledon's shapes and color at the seedling period, leaf's shape, color, and the number of furs at the plant-forming period, the color of the petiole, the nursing and evolving level of the head at the shaping period, the extent of opening and closing in center of head, the head's shape, the mode of foliage's closing in the ball, as well as the shapes of the crown.3,Optimization of the electrophoresis system for the Chinese cabbage seed purification.Optimization of the electrophoresis system for the Chinese cabbage seed purification were made in respect of sample making and glue making.The optimized electrophoresis system can separate the hybrids of the seed varieties, namely 87-114, No. 3 of the Improved Green Hybrid, No. 3 of the Jin Vegetable, No. 6 of Lubai, No. 5 of the Early Maturity, from the self-crossing of parents and the hybrids. This showed that the electrophoresis system, after optimization, has stronger capability of hybrids selection.4,The establishment of formula related between the purity results by electrophoresis and by plot planting.Nine samples purity of Chinese cabbage was tested with above system and in the field with plot test. Correlation analysis between the electrophoresis test (X) and plot test (Y) showed that there is significant relation between two methods(r=0.826). which prove that this method can be used for the purification test. The equation between the tested results of the electrophoresis purification and field purification is established as follow: Y=0.7724X + 23.855.
