Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), an important greenhouse veget- able in china ,It originated from the south-east Asia and it is sensitive to temperature .there are two important factors that affect the growth and development of eggplant .One is long term sub-low night temperature in greenhouse in winter and long term sub-high daytime temperature in greenhouse in spring.But the investigations are less attention.This study was conducted in two parts .Part 1 take 9℃and 12℃as treatments of sub-low temperature at night;Part 2 take 38℃and 33℃as treatments of sub-high temperature in daytime.By measuring the changes of indexes in physiological-biochemical character and photothesis parameter,we investigated the effects of long term sub-low temperature at night and long term sub-high temperature in daytime,and provide the method and the theory basis for the production of eggplant in greenhouse.Major results as follows:1. With the time prolonging its plant height and stem sickness displayed a dropping tendency and its growth different degree suppression under the long term sub-low temperature at night.The plant height was suitable to be used as an appraial index for the effect of sub-low temperature.2. Under the long term sub-low temperature condition ,the content of solube sugar increased sharply at the beginning,then decreased, rose ,finally decreased;The total chlorophyll content showed a decreasing trend and the chlorophyll a/b ratio showed increasing trend.MDA content indicateded rise tendency at all the levels compared with non-treatment.3. Relative activity of SOD,CAT and POD are related to the time lengh of treatment .In the treatment of 9 days, SOD ativity of 9℃was the lowest and SOD activty of 12℃was the highest . SOD ativity of 9℃was lower than the comparison in figure.Under sub-low temperature treatment,the activities of POD and CAT increased slowly. So activities of POD and CAT may be used to assess the effect of sub-low temperature on eggplant.4. Treatment showed some effects on the Pn,Gs,Tr in the leaves of eggplant . There was difference between two treatments and comparison in different time. Pn,Gs,Tr were indexes to asses the sub-low temperature on eggplant's effect.These indexes should be taken into acount as a whole.5. With the treatment prolonging,plant height and stem sickness were enhanced significantly with the long term sub-high temperature in daytime. Plant height was also suitable to be used as an assesment index for the effect of sub-high temperature.6. Under the long term sub-high temperature condition ,the content of solube sugar decreased at the beginning,then increased,finally decreased; The total chlorophyll content increased slowly at all the levels,and was the highest with the treatment 33℃. The chlorophyll a/b ratio decreased slowly. Content of MDA presented an increasing tendency at all the levels compared with non-treatment,and it was the highest level with the treatment 38℃.7. Under the long term sub-high temperature condition ,SOD activity of two treatments increased at the beginning and then decreased, CAT activity increased significantly . The activity of SOD was higher the temperature was higher . With the treatment of 4 day ,the POD activity under 33℃was the same as the POD activity under 38℃,both were higher than control.So nearly the activity of SOD and CAT may be used as indexes to asses the effect of sub-high temperature on eggplant. The activity of POD was not an appropriate index.8. The treatment of sub-high temperature had a great effect on photosynthetic parameters .With the proloning of the treatment , the higher temperature the lower Pn.During the whole treatment ,Gs,Tr in the leaves of eggplant with treatment of 38℃were the highest . These indexes should be taken into acount as a whole.
