The effects of eco-organic type soilless culture (EOTSC)system and soil culture were investigated on eggplant (Ziyang chang qie) by measurements of physical and chemical properties of different culture substrates, growth of eggplant seedlings, chlorophyll contents, gas exchange parameters, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, activity of root of eggplant growth period, quality and yield of eggplant, in order to provide theoretical basis that could obtain sustainable and efficient development for eggplant of EOTSC system in solar greenhouse. The main results were as follows:1. Specific weight of EOTSC substrate was lower than soil culture, total porosity and amount of nutrient elements were higher than soil culture; pH was more appropriate growth of eggplant.2. Height, stem diameter and leaves area of eggplant seedling of EOTSC system were significantly higher than soil culture.3. Chlorophyll contents and caro contents of EOTSC system eggplant were significantly higher than soil culture, but Chla/b contents of soil culture was higher remarkably than EOTSC system.4. Net photosynthetic rate(Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs) and transpiratory rate(Tr) of EOTSC system were higher remarkably than under soil culture.5. LSP, AQY, CSP and CE of eggplant increased at first and then decreased with the prolonging of the growth period, reached maximum at full fruit period; but LCP and CCP of eggplant decreased at first and then increased with the prolonging of the growth period,decreased to minimum. LSP, AQY, CSP, and CE of EOTSC system eggplant were remarkably higher than soil culture,but LCP and CCP were remarkably lower than soil culture.6. Non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) of soil culture was higher remarkably than EOTSC system,Maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII(Fv/Fm), quantum efficiency of non-cyclic electron transport of PSII (ФPSII), the maximal photochemical efficiency of PSⅡin the light(Fv′/Fm′) and photochemical quenching (qP) of EOTSC system were higher remarkably than under soil culture. 7. Activity of root of eggplant increased at first and then decreased with the prolonging of the growth period, reaching maximum at full fruit period. Activity of root of EOTSC system eggplant were higher remarkably than under soil culture.8. Vc contents, single fruit weight and yield per mu of EOTSC system eggplant were higher significantly than under soil culture; nitrate and nitrite content of EOTSC system eggplant were significantly lower than soil culture.
