Licorice has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine extensively for over 2000 years. It not only has antiinflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral activities,but also has immunomodulating,antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities.Glycyrrhiza inflata Batal,an important soecie of licorice,has been frequently used to treat phthisis,contagious hepatitis,ague and gastric diseases. One of the major compounds,flavonoids has been demonstrated to carry significant biological or anti-oxidation activities.Thus ,the plant of G..inflata has fallen short of supply with an increasing demand for flavonoids.plant cell culture is a useful method for the production of valuable scecondary metabolites.Thus ,the present study mainly focused on the research of incresing the flavonoids and the cell culture in the reactor.The mian results were shown as follows:(1) The culture condition of cell culture were studied.The cell biomass and flavonoids production could be increased by adding DMSO,mannitol,Tween-20 and conditioned medium with the suitable concentration at the right time.and also The cell biomass and flavonoids production could be increased by keeping the pH of medium at 5.1.(2) The effects of methyl jasmonate and methyl dihydrojasmonate on the cell growth and the flavonoids biosynthesis in cell suspension culture of Glycyrrhiza inflata Bat were studied. The results showed that the flavonoids productions can reach 108.26mg/L and 110.26mg/L when the methyl dihydrojasmonate and methyl jasmonate were put into the media with the concentration of 100μmol/L on the 5th day and the 10th day, respectively, and the cell growth weren't restrained very much. The cell biomass and flavonoids production could be increased by adding the combination of inducers and precursors were also studied,and the flavonoids production would reach 125mg/L when the combination of Pheylalanine and MJ were added into the medium at 100μmol/L.(3) The cell growth and flavonoids production were studied in 250ml flask,2L flask and 10L reactor,and the metabolic kinetics for G..inflata cell in the reactor were studied . The maximum biomass,flavonoids production and the maximum specific growth rate all decreased with progressive culture volum.(4) We using IBA take place of 2,4-D,and got a good result,the flavonoids production reach 118mg/L,1.3 times as the control group, which can be prepared for the industry production.
