The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of Acant hopanax senticosus on microflora and intestine development in calves.Methods:Twelve Chinese Holstein male calves with 7-day age were randomly divided into 4 groups(Acanthopanax senticosus micropowder was added in group 1 with 1g/kg;Acanthopanax senticosussuper micropowder was added in group 2 withlg/kg;Acanthopanax senticosus coarse powde was added in group 3 with 2g/kg and group 4 was control)The experiment lasted for three weeks was divided into twoparts.The microflora of calves were determined in experiment one and morphological changes of small intestine villis were observed by scanning electron microscope.Results:Experiment 1:The amount of Bacillus bifidus and Bacillus acidi lactici in rumen, stomach,ileum and appendix in group 1 were markedly higher than that of control group (P<0.05),The amount of Bacillus bifidus and Bacillus acidi lactici in group 2 and group 3 were higher than these ofcontrol group(P>0.05).The amount of Bacillus bifidus were increased 17.84%(P<0.05),8.31%(P>0.05),2.79%(P>0.05) respectively;The amount of Bacillus acidi lactici were increased 18.45%(P<0.05 ),7.12%(P>0.05),1.44% (P>0.05) respectively.Experiment 2:The length and density of villus in group1,group2 and group3 were markedly increased than these of control group(P<0.05 ).And depth of crypts of intestine in group1,group2 were markedly increased than these of control group(P<0.05).the thickness of gut in group1 was markedly decrased than that of control group(P>0.05).The diameter and quantity of the villus in digestive tract could also indicate that Acanthopanax senticosus could provote the villus development and increase absorption area.Conclusion:Firstly,The amount of Bacillus bifidus and Bacillus acidi lactici are increased the growth of beneficical microorganism intestine in calves is improved by adding Acanthopanax senticosus.Secondly,the villus development and absorption area can be improved by adding Acanthopanax senticosus.Thirdly,different processing products of Acanthopanax senticosus will have different bioavailability,so there will be different effects of acanthopanaxSenticosus on microflora and intestine development incalves...
