The plug seedling production has been widely extended according to the development and advance of protected culture and establishment of high technological agriculture demonstrate area. Peat moss is an important substrate for seedling production and growth in horticulture and needs long time in the process in form. Peat mass would rapidly consumed away and present its un-renewable resource if we exploit excess quantities, meanwhile, exploitation of excess quantities peat moss would destroy the environment of swamp land and increase the risk of global greenhouse effect, so, the alternative substrate of peat mass for plug seedling nurses had been attached importance to all over the world. The different substrate with the different characteristic, the seedling growth could be affected by the physical and chemical characteristic of substrate, therefore, it is very important for us to investigate the seedling production technology to specific alternative substrate. The effect of the ratio of coin stalk substrate to vermiculite, the adding quantities of dry chicken mature and the irrigation lower limit on the tomato seedling growth were investigated by the method of orthogonal design, the result showed as follow: (1)the order of the three factors affecting the tomato seedling height, stem diameter and the tomato longest root were all the irrigation lower limit>the adding quantities of chicken mature>the ratio of coin stalk to vermiculite in volume ,the order of that to affecting the number of tomato seedling leaves was the irrigation lower limit>the adding quantities of the chicken mature and the ratio of coin stalk to the vermiculite in volume , the adding quantities of the chicken mature had the same affect as the ratio of coin stalk to the vermiculite in volume. (2) The optimum treatment to effecting the seedling aboveground shape parameter was treatment 9(A3B3C2).The optimum treatment was A3B3C3 in the tomato seedling stem diameter, the number of tomato seedling leaves and the longest tomato root. (3) Factor C(adding quantity chicken mature) was a mainly factor at the early period of seedling growth,. factor A(the irrigate lower limit) was a mainly factor in the middle stage of seedling growth, factor B(the ratio of coin stalk to the vermiculite in volume ) was a mainly factor at the last stage of seedling growth. The seedling aboveground fresh weight and dry weight of the treatment 9(A3B3C2)were all the best at the early an middle stage, but the difference between the treatments were not significant at the end of seedling production. Factor C(adding quantities of chicken mature) was the mainly factor to effect the root fresh weight and factor B(the ratio of coin stalk to the vermiculite in volume) was the mainly factor to effect the root dry weight at the early stage of the seedling growth. Factor A(the irrigation lower limit) was the mainly factor to effect the seedling fresh weight and dry weight at other stage of the seedling growth. Treatment 7(A3B1C3)and treatment 9(A3B3C2) were the better treatment compared other treatment in underground fresh weight and dry weight at the different stage of seedling growth.
