Tomato Plug Seedling Substrate Screening

The Preparation of Plug MediumFor Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill)Postgratuate:Wei ZhilongTutor: ZouZhirong(Northwest Sci-Tech University of Agricultural and Forestry,Yang Ling,ShaanXi 712100)AbstractIn order to select one or more kinds of plug mediums in which tomato can growth well and they are get easily and cheap. Therefore, we can reduce production costs, and produce plug seedlings in Shaanxi.The investigation include 16 kinds of medium, which made from 5 materials, humus soil, shatan, mushroom compost, wheat straw, sand. And the best medium, peat:vermiculite 2:1, was made as CK.The results show that A-4 (humus soil) IB-7(shatan ),B-8 (humus soil:Mushroom compost:Shatan 1:2:1) are best mediums for tomato plug seedlings.First, the physical and chemical properties, AFP, CC, TP, BD, EC, pH, were as good as CK. Secondly, the results of trial show that cholorophyll content of leafs, vigor of root, ability of fight against low temperature of A-4, B-7,B-8 were as same as CK. Thirdly, The tomato Seedlings ,grown in the A4, their blooming data, setting fruit and the harvesting data were earlier as same as CK. And it抯 yield was higher than CK.The result of trial can solve the problem of high cost because of pent and vermiculite. So, We can develop plug seedlings in Shaanxi.
