The conventional way measuring wood basic density is takes cores using growth cones in chest, then measure wood basic density with permeate withdrawal method. This method is complex, take long time, spends high, at the same time, it is has damage to wood, serious influence the wood later using. So using Non-Destructive Testing to check wood basic appears especially important. Pilodyn is a kind of Non-Destructive Testing tester in the indirect estimation of wood density, it is developed in the 1970s in Denmark, it is used in the indirect estimate the wood property of live trees. Physical and mechanical properties of Poulus cathayans,Betula platyphylla, Picea crassifolia and Pinus amandii plantation wood had been comprehensively researched using non-destructive testing methods. This study will provide scientific base and quantitative target for selecting proper non-destructive testing methods to evaluate wood properties of poplar plantation rightly and quickly, and it will contribute to selecting, planting and effective using of poplar plantation. This article researched the Pilodyn method to measure wood basic density in Poulus cathayans,Betula platyphylla,Picea crassifolia and Pinus amandii. The living tree was penetrated by pilodyn in both south and north directions in the field and note down the exploring numerical value. Every wood basic density include north/south outer wood basic density, outer average wood basic density, north/south whole wood basic density, whole average wood basic density and fiber length and width of increment core were menstruated in door. Through the analysis of Pilodyn penetration, the basic density of increment core, fiber length and fiber width, springwood /latewood width/long, DBH, the result showed that: the Pilodyn penetration is bigger, then the wood basic density is smaller. The different DBH has different fastness of shake to Pilodyn,s wallop, so the DBH of standing trees is bigger, the influence is also bigger to Pilodyn penetration. It is better to estimate whole wood basic density than outer wood basic density using Pilodyn in broad-leaved species, It is better to estimate outer basic density than whole basic density using Pilodyn in coniferous species. The wood basic density is bigger, the correlation is better in broad-leaved species, in coniferous species, The wood basic density is bigger, the correlation also is better. These results better approve the viewpoint which was proposed by Walt and Koziol that the density is bigger the Pilodyn estimates better. The south Pilodyn penetration is better to estimate whole basic density than north Pilodyn penetration in Poulus cathayans and Betula platyphylla, The north Pilodyn penetration is better to estimate whole basic density than south Pilodyn penetration in Picea crassifolia and Pinus amandii. This article verified the effect of Pilodyn, demonstrated the feasibility and reliability of Pilodyn on testing wood density of Poulus cathayans, Betula platyphylla, Picea crassifolia and Pinus amandii, and laid foundation for further research on non-destructive testing and colonial selection improvement of other trees.
