Red rice strains are planted in China widely and are known to contain many mineral elements needed by human and nutrition beneficial for people health. Some studies showed that the mineral(Fe, Ca, P, Zn)contents of the red rice are higher than those of the common rice. Selenium is very important for creatures .In our country, there are a lot of people who live in areas lacking selenium. Nowadays it is known as an economical, effective and safe way to absorb selenium by food. However there are few researches about the red rice capacity of accumulation selenium and the effect of application sodium selenium on the other mineral elements contents in rice. This study aim to research the effect of sodium selenite application on the contents of nutrition .The main results are summarized as follows:1 .Through the research of the effect of sodium selenite applications on the content of selenium at different growth stage, the results showed that the better stage to apply sodium selenite was full heading stage. At booting stage, the contents of selenium in red rice varieties could be increased by the different aomount application of sodium sodium accordingly. However, the highest amount of sodium selenite could reduce the the contents of selenium in white varieties at booting stage. And at full heading stage all the rice varieties(including Hongbaoshi,621A/319and Shuhui527) could accumulate selenium from the sodium selenite. The red rice (Hongbaoshi) could uptake more selenium than others. The sodium selenite application also increased the contents of selenium in rice bran which contained more selenium than brown rice. And it did not affect the rice yield significantly.2.The results showed that higher sodium selenite supply generally resulted in lower grain iron and zinc contents compared to lower sodium selenite supply significantly, especially in Hongbaohi .The contents of germanium in there rice varieties were not affected significantly.3. The higher sodium selenite supply did not affect the contents of anthoyanin in red rice grain. And the total antioxidant capacities in red rice grain were reduced by high sodium selenite supply. The reason might be the absorption of selenium affected the metabolism of components which associated the antioxidant capacities.
