Rattan is one of very important biomaterials. The same as the wood, permeability of rattan also has an effect on colouring, drying, inflaming retarding, antisepsis, modificationand so on.The research refers to the relevant theory and research approaches of permeability of wood to study the permeability of rattan.(1) The research on the longitudinal direction gas permeability of internode and node of Calamus simplicifolius and Daemonorops margaritae was measured and analyzed for the first time. The results show that the permeability of internode and node of Calamus simplicifolius are respectively higher than the permeability of internode and node of Daemonorops margaritae. The permeability of internode of Calamus simplicifolius and Daemonorops margaritae are a little higher than the permeability of node independently, that indicated the node has some obstruction to the permeability of node, however, the permeability of internode is not necessarily bigger than the permeability of corresponding node, the permeability of node is also not necessarily lower than the permeability of node, that indicated the obstruction of node is not obvious. The permeability of Calamus simplicifolius and Daemonorops margaritae are changed irregularly from bottom to top and are higher than that of wood and Phyllostachys heterocycla var.pubescens. Furthermore, there are little difference in permeability among strain.(2) Four methods are used to improve the permrability of rattan,They are water-boiling method, airproof water-boiling method, microwave water-boiling method and airproof microwave water-boiling method. Four methods all have some help to the improvement of permeability of rattan. However, the two kinds of airproof treatment methods are worse than non-airproof treatment method.(3)Among the eight used dye, the depth of longitudial permeability of Acid Red MOO(BC) in Calamus simplicifolius and Daemonorops margaritae all are the deepest ,so Acid Red MOO(BC) will be used in the successive experiment. From big to small, the order of the depth of longitudial permeability of different type of dye is acid dye, reactive dye, direct dye, basic dye.(4) In the experiment of dye permeability in the condition of normal pressure, dye concentration has the most obvious influence to the depth of permeability. the dye temperature and permeability time are helpful to improve the depth of permeability, but influence is not obvious. Dye concentration, dye temperature and permeability time have the similar law of change in the process that dye permeate the rattan, which reflect this two kinds of rattan is similar in some respects. However,in the experiment of dye permeability in the condition of negative pressure, dye can pass the 180 cm sample in a short time,so the negative pressure is a main factor in the process that dye permeate the rattan, then the order is th dye concentration, dye temperature and permeability time.
