Pseudorabies (PR) caused by pseudorabies virus is an acute infectious disease which infects domestic and wild animals. In this investigation, questionnaire, ELISA and PCR were employed to test the serum samples and tissue samples collected from large swine farms in Nanan city, Fujian Province. The goal of this survey was to understand the prevalence of PR in Nanan city, to provide background of reference for prevention and control of porcine pseudorabies, according to the clinical practice experience in Nanan city.Questionnaires were distributed to the veterinarians who were served for pig farms and quarantine officers of 26 towns in Nanan city. The results showed that the positive rate of PRV symptoms was 56.20%(281/500) and the positive rate of PRV infection was 65.48%(184/281). The results indicated that the pseudorabies virus is propagating in Nanan city, and preventive measures should be undertaken actively.860 serum samples and 560 serum samples were collected from the farms, which have been vaccinated by vaccine of PR and non-vaccinated pig farms. ELISA was employed to test the PRV antibody, and the results showed that the positive rates of the immunized and non-immunized pig farms were 88.72%(763/860) and 11.25% (63/560), respectively. It indicated that the antibody positive rate of immunized pig farms was significantly higher than that of non-immunized pig farms.268 tissue samples from the pigs showing PR symptoms were detected for PRV by PCR. The results showed that the positive rate of PRV was 17.91%(48/268).160 samples from 32 pig farms of no clinical symptoms were detected for PRV by PCR. The results showed that the positive rate of PRV was 10%(16/160). The positive rate of pig farms was 28.13%(9/32).The results of investigations indicated that PRV is existed in most of the swine farms in Nanan city, which is a potential risk to the pig producion in the area.Following measures to prevent PR are worked out:to make sure the progress of bio-safety measures including routine disinfection, environmental sanitation and sequestration etc.; to institute reasonable vaccine inoculation to ensure the immune effect; to enhance feeding and management and breed the healthy pig herbs; to eliminate PRV positive pigs to ensure pig herbs healthy in the farms.
