More and more people focus their eyes on the traditional medicines which have been used for their primary health care. The dried Plumula nelumbinis has been traditionally used for hypotension, tranquilizer and tonic in Chinese medicine.The phytochemical studies of Plumula nelumbinis began in the middle of last century, so far, the chemical composition and its pharmacological activity have been more in-depth and comprehensive. More than 12 alkaloids have been isolated from this plant. In this paper, we summarized the studies of its chemical composition, pharmacological activity and its extraction method.We studied the water soluble residue of the methanol extracts of Plumula nelumbinis with solvent extraction, column chromatography and HPLC, etc. And 14 compounds were isolated and purified. These compounds have been identified by means of 1D-NMR and 2D spectroscopic techniques.The compounds were identified as follows: 4-O-β-D-Glucopyranosyl-phenol (1); 4-O-β-D-Glucopyranosyl-trans-cinnamic acid (2); 4-Hydroxybenzyl alcohol (3); 4-Hydroxyphenethyl alcohol (4); 4-Hydroxycinnamic acid (5). Apigenin-6-C-α-L-arabofuranosyl-8-C-β-D- glucopyranoside (6); 5,7,4′-Trihydroxyl -3′- methoxyflavone -3-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl]-β-D- glucopyranoside (7); Lonicerin (8); 5,7- Dihydroxyl -4′- methoxylflavone -3-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl]-β-D- glucopyranoside (9); 3′-Hydroxyapigenin-8-C-β-D- glucopyranoside (10); 3′-Hydroxylapigenin-6-C-β-D- glucopyranoside (11); Isovitexin (12); Quercetin-3-O-β-D- glucopyranoside (13); 3-n-Butyl acrylate-5,7,3′,4′-tetrehydroxyflavone (14);...
