| It's of thousands years history for the city square development that received popularity as a pastime meadow form. Classical square has not much virescence generally mainly with hard floors and architectures. Incarnating caring for human beings and environment, modern squares sufficiently take virescence into consideration. Owing to disparity between understanding depth and natural environment, there are certain problems in city square virescence. In northwestern arid part of China, city square virescence encounters serious problems because of lack of rainfall and earth salinization. This paper adopts the virescence case in Zhaoyang Square in Baiyin City, western part of China to propose feasible measures for virescence implementation in western China by joint research of the city square and literature study in arid areas of northwestern China, which includes propositions of upgrading water resource utilization rate and regulating earth salinization in the hope of providing certain reference for its application. The main research results come as following:1. Select suitable plants, optimize plants configuring patternsNative soil has not only strong adaptability but also antireversion force forming different specialty landscape. Therefore, in arid western are, it is advisory to adopt drought and alkali resistant plants with ornamental value in the virescence process.Sod management requires fineness with high cost; whereas bushes and arbors and especially the arbors have relatively extensive management but can get 4-6 times as much ecological function as sod with same acreage. In northwestern China, it is inadvisable to plant large areas of sod and the composite structure of "arbor, bush and sod" is appropriate to optimize garden plants deployment patterns.2.1n water saving techniques, enhance moisture utilization efficiencyIt is an indispensable way to tackle the problem of lacking water in arid northwestern areas enforcing the collection and utilization of tertiary treated wastewater and sufficiently utilizing unusual water. In order to increase rainfall earth infiltration capacity, lessen the moisture evaporation, effectively collect rainfall, reduce ground water flow, aiming at sod irrigation and supplement underground water, as much permeable materials as possible can be used at the square. Besides, swag water collection can be applied around plants isolation belt and low-lying district to heighten the water using rate to its most extent. Irrigation pattern is an important factor to determine whether water could be saved at arid squares in northwestern areas. Scientifically choose advanced water saving and irrigating pattern according to water demand features of different floras is propitious to water saving and city sustainable development.3. Chemically regulate and select technically water-saving productsWater retention agent possesses the function of "water retention, water saving, and water collection", and it can effectively prevent water low filtration and evaporation to reduce water consumption and improve utilization ratio. Drought resistant agent can well deflate the pore openness to reduce leaf evaporation, increase chlorophylls containing amount, strengthen root vigor, improve water condition within plant body and upgrade plant drought resistant power. Therefore, water retention agent and drought resistant agent and other chemicals can reduce water use on the base of livening the plants growth.4. Reduce construction cost and maintenance cost to control spendingReduce the use of costly marble and granite as paving materials, suit measures to concrete conditions to promote the use of low cost materials use, such as flagstones, screes and planting bricks. In later stage maintenance process, fertilization, trim molding and pest control and other measures are needed to contain cost. |
