Forest fire is an important factor of forest resources destruction. Under the background of global climate warming, as a country has high incidence of forest fire but poor forest, strengthening forest fire forecast and monitor has particular practical significance for forest cover improvement and ecological environment protection.Based on fire statistics and weather data collected from 1996 to 2008 in Jilin province, this study calculates the data with fire weather index calculation program and develops a new fire danger classification method by analyzing the results when the Canadian Fire Weather Index system was introduced in Jilin province. Then, apply the classification results in the forest fire danger rating system.The results show that the fire weather index calculation program has achieved design features. It can not only calculate raster data which is formed by ASCII code, but also can calculate Excel data which contains daily weather data, facilitates follow-up study greatly.The calibration and test results indicate that the output index values from FWI system are well correlated with the actual fire occurrence. It is also verified that the classification of fire danger ratings from our study can better describe the fire danger rating in Jilin Province, and make the adapted FWI system suitable for the local application. So, this study is correct and feasible, and has guiding significance for the other areas.The classification results will be used in Jilin forest fire danger rating system. By introducing the system briefly, it show that the system achieved design features well and with wide prospect of application, and will also play an important role for improving the management efficiency of forest fire forecast in our country.
