The Relationship Beteen The Expression Of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor And Microvessel Density And The Progress,metastasis Of Tumor In Head And Neck

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) , microvessel density (MVD) , and the progress , metastasis of head and neck tumor. Method VEGF protein expression and MVD in 32 patients with malignant tumor of head and neck and 15 benign of head and neck and 16 head and neck tissue without tumor were studied by immunohistochemistry method. Results The expressions of VEGF and MVD in malignant tumor of head and neck were respectively higher than those in benign tumor of head and neck , head and neck tissue without tumor (p<0.05) .The expression of VEGF and MVD in malignant tumor of head and neck tissue with metastasis were significantly increased as compared with those in malignant tumor of head and neck tissue without metastasis (P<0.05) . There were close positive correlation between VEGV and MVD (r=0.398 , P<0.05) . Conclusion expression of VEGF are closely correlated with angiogenesis of head and neck tumor. The increase of VEGF expression and MVD may promote progress and metastasis of head and neck tumor . VEGF and MVD may have prognostic value in head and neck tumor.
