Tumor growth relays on angiogenesis, vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) also named vascular permeability fator (VPF), is an important positive regulator for angiogenesis. This is one target of the anticaner research. Discovered menbers of VEGF family include: VEGF– A,VEGF - B,VEGF - C,VEGF - D,VEGF– E and placenta growth factor(PLGF). Receptors of VEGF are VEGFR1( Flt-1), VEGFR2 (KDR / Flk- 1), VEGFR3 (Flt-4) and Neuropilin-1(NRP1). Members of this family can seletively promote mitosis of vascular endothelial cells or lymphatic endothelial cells, stimulate endothelial cells to proliferate and induce angiogenesis. They also enhance the permeability of microvessels, help to establish capillary vessels net. This article mainly reviewed the structures, functional char acteristics, relationship between VEGF and tumor angiogenesis.
