Objective:To find out the relationship of the hyaluronic acid (HA) overexpression in peritoneal fluid in patients with the gastric cancer and the invasion or diffusion of the cancer. Methods: Using RIA, the peritoneal fluid concentration hyaluronic acid (PFHA) was determined in 48 patients with gastric cancer prior to and after operation. Among them, there were 22 cases in stage of pTNM I, II, 26 in stage of pTNM III, IV; and 25 performed radical resection, 19 performed palliative resection. The PFHA from 23 non-carcinoma patients were as the control. The peritoneal fluid was obtained by the implantable Infuse-Port and the PFHA followed up after resection. Results: The average PFHA level of gastric cancer group(965.96 ng/mg protein) was significantly higher than that of the non-carcinoma control(362.39 ng/mg protein) (NO.01). The PFHA concentration were significantly higher in groups of pTNM III+IV(1094.42ng/mg protein) than that in groups of pTNM 1+11(814.03 ng/mg protein) (NO.01). The PFHA level in the radical resection group significantly reduced a month later(p
