It is well known that sleep is a major physiological process regulating the human immunity. And sleep apnea as an important sleep related disease may influence not only the cell-mediated immunity but also the humoral immunity. This has been proved to be true by some recent studies but still controversial. In order to reveal the exact mechanism how the OSAS change immunity and the interrelation between cytokine and sleep hypoxemia or sleep structure disorder, using the method of ELISA and MTT, we investigate four kinds of target cells in vitro as well as the peripheral blood of OSAS patients and normal controls in the morning after the two groups have been monitored the whole night by PSG.Our study supports the conclusion that OSAS interferes the human cell-mediated immunity suggesting by the increase of TNF-aand IFN-y releasing level as well as the decrease of IL-2 releasing level and bioactivity and the decrease of TNF-a bioactivity . And one more important thing is the decrease of the bioactivity/releasing level ratio of TNF-aand IFN-yin OSAS patients. Nevertheless, no statistical deference has been found between OSAS patients and normal controls about the killer activity of natural killer cell. At the same time, the correlation between sleep hypoxemia/sleep structure disorder and cytokines including TNF-a and IL-2 have been found which might lead to the excessive daytime sleepiness in OSAS patients; The correlations between sleep structure/respiratory disorder and bioactivity or the ratio of bioactivity/releasing level of cytokines suchas TNF-a x IL-2 and IFN-yalso have been proved.
