Objective To investigate the expression of PTEN protein in malignant melanoma in the head and neck and its significance in clinical pathology.Method Forty-two cases of malignant melanoma in the head and neck and thirty cases junctional nevus were stained with PTEN protein rabbit antibody by SABC immu-nohistochemical method. The results were analysed with clinical pathology. Results In the PTEN-positive tumors as well as in junctional nevus, the protein was localized in the cytoplasm and in the necleus . The positive expression rate of PTEN was significantly lower in malignant melanoma than in junctional nevus(47. 62% versus 83. 33%,P
