The spleen in TCM is highly associated with the digestive system in Modern Medicine. The spleen-qi deficiency snydrome will lead to the disturbance of the function of digestive system. Since the syndrome of spleeii-deficiency has a universal significance in the occurrence and development of diseases, this study was made on chiropractic therapy. Objective:To elucidate the effects of chiropractic therapy on the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome in children and to prove the role of chiropractic in reinforcing spleen to promote digestion by an clinical observation and animal experiment.Methods:(1) Clinical research. 60 cases with the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome were chosen and grouped into two groups randomly. Each group contained 30 cases. One group received chiropractic therapy, the other received Si Junzi Tang therapy. Investigate clinical therapeutically effects and the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome integral. Assay D-xylose excretion rate in urine and were compared with the normal group. (2) Animal experiment. 32 rabbits were grouped into four group randomly:Group A is normal control group,Group B is chiropractic group,Group C is Si Junzi Tang group and Group D is natural recovery group. Each group contained 8 rabbits. Except for Group A,the other three groups were injected reserpine and form the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome model. After the three groups received different treatment, assay theirweight,D-xylose excretion rate and gastrin in plasma. Results:For children with the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome,D-xylose exertion rate in urine was significantly lower than that of normal children and for rabbits with the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome,D-xylose excretion rate and the content of gastrin in plasma were lower than normal level. Chiropractic therapy can obviously improve clinical manifestations of children and rabbits with the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome. The total effective rate for the treatment to children is 86.7%. It can raise D-xylose excretion rate of the children (P<0. 01 ) and rabbits (P<0. 05) . After Chiropractic therapy the rabbits gain weight (P<0. 01 ),and their content of gastrin in plasma improved (P<0. 01 ) . The treatment efficiency of chiropractic therapy is similar to that of Si Junzi Tang (P >0. 05).Conclusions:These results indicate that chiropractic therapy has an effects on improving excretion of digestive tract and helping absorption. The chiropractic therapy is a simple and easy method of treating the spleen-qi deficiency snydrome in children. It may not only protect the spleen and stomach but also enforce the spleen.
