The Yellow Emperor's Classic of InternalMedicine(YECIM for short) is the foundational works of Chinese traditional medicine, and the theories of YECIM are still applied generally in clinical treatment now. Qi ism is the most important ontology of Chinese ancient materialism. The authors of YECIM took Qi ism as a tool when constructing the theory of Chinese traditional medicine, and hence the theory of YECIM is based on Qi ism, which serializes and systematizes the miscellaneous contents of YECIM into an idiographic theoretical integration, thus making it the foundation of the Chinese traditional medicine. Although Qi ism plays such an important role, its present researches are not due satisfactory. From viewpoints of the literal meaning of Qi and the origination of Qi ism this thesis discussed and coordinated theories in YECIM about Qi, while analyzing both the positive and negative effects of Chinese ancient Qi ontology on YECIM. At the end, future perspectives of Qi ism were suggested in accordance with the modern ontology on Qi.
